Located at the southern tip of our island, the Race will be held within Cocos Lagoon which lies between Merizo and Cocos Island. The lagoon is protected for the most part from the open ocean by the fringing reef around it. Because there is access to the open ocean that surrounds Guam, participants will see many of the amazing marine creatures that call the waters near our island home. Sea turtles, manta rays, and an abundance of tropical fish make up the majority of the sea life that can be seen, with an occasional reef shark or two making an appearance. Because currents may be on the strong side due to weather conditions and locations such as around the channels, swimmers are encouraged to prepare themselves before the race to ensure they can handle the challenge.

The Cocos Crossing is divided into four different race options. Competitors can choose to enter the 5K Race, the 10K Race, the 2.5-mile Swim, or the 2.5-mile Neptune Swim which allows competitors to use masks, fins, and snorkels. Both of the 2.5-mile races will be straight swims from the Cocos Island pier to the Merizo public pier with event buoys as guides. The 5K race will be in the shape of a half diamond, and will begin at the Cocos Island pier as well. The 5K race will then curve around a buoy in the middle, and head towards the Merizo pier. Contestants in the 10K race will follow a diamond-shaped course that begins and ends at Merizo pier. The 10K course will go across the lagoon to Cocos Island, and then to a specially placed buoy, and then will head back to the Merizo pier.
