Price Point Matters – Cheap and Powerful

The Nissan GT-R owes a lot of its success to the fact that it was a luxury sports car in performance and power, but not in price. Costing just a little more than a fully fitted Nissan Altima at $75,000, the Nissan GT-R gained a quick cult following. They sold fast, almost immediately, and so it earned the nickname “Godzilla,” a homage to the giant monster of Japanese media.

And while the price has ticked up a bit over the years, the GT-R keeps kicking. Slowly, of course, but kicking none the less. This comes as a surprise to many for a very important reason: the vehicle has barely changed over the years.

Features – How Much do they Matter?

The Nissan GT-R hasn’t changed much in the 10 years it’s been around. Sure, the price and power have increased, but it still doesn’t have many of the features found on sports cars today. No electric motors, an old infotainment system, and a five-year-old Garmin GPS, just to name a few missing features. This minimalist approach is intentional.

The Nissan GT-R only needs to be powerful, it just has to be fast, and it just has to exist. The sales figures speak for themselves, with the Nissan GT-R sales and production remaining steady even as competition has surged. People love the car, despite its lack of features. It’s that simple. They love the consistency, the power, and the legacy behind it.
