What is active safety?

It should be well-known that safety features are designed to keep us… safe. There are different ways of doing so. An active safety feature is designed to prevent an accident from happening. Forward collision warning, blind spot monitoring, and smart cruise control are all examples of active safety technologies. These features keep your awareness as high as possible so you don’t experience a collision.

What is passive safety?

Passive features, meanwhile, are meant to reduce or manage the damage caused by a collision. If active safety features fail and an accident happens, passive safety features kick in to keep everything under control. The most obvious passive feature is your car’s airbag system. We hope your airbags never need to deploy, but if they do, they protect you and your passengers from getting seriously hurt. Other passive safety features include seat-belt pretensioners, crumple zones, headrests, and high strength steel frames.

INFINITI vehicles are all chock full active and passive safety features, many of which are listed above. Contact us to learn more about vehicle safety.
