The main difference you will find between the Titan and Titan XD is the availability of a diesel engine. Standard in all trims of the Titan, as well as the base trim of the XD, you will find a 5.6-liter and 32-valve, V8 gas engine with 390 horsepower and 394 pound-to-foot torque. Exclusive to the Titan XD are trim levels with a Cummins 5.0-liter DOHC 32-valve V8 Turbo diesel engine with 310 horsepower and 555 pound-foot of torque.
Thanks to its available diesel engine, the Titan XD is capable of holding and towing a bit more than the Titan. However, do not let the XD’s diesel engine overshadow the great towing and payload capacity of the Titan as is. Both trucks are good choices, so it ultimately comes down to whether or not you need the extra power of diesel.
