How to avoid being in a car accident on Guam

Drivers everywhere know the feeling of getting in an accident. Even if you haven’t been in a full-on collision, you have likely encountered some incidental bump or scrape to your vehicle. Some accidents are so minor that there is almost no point to getting insurance involved. Others, however, can be far more serious and even deadly. Read on to learn a few tips on how to avoid car accidents.

Avoid the fast lane

The left-most lane on highways and other multi-laned streets is often considered to be the fast lane. Those driving faster than others should use the left lane when possible. But if you use the middle or right-most lanes, you generally give yourself more time and more options if you do encounter an accident. Statistically, most highway accidents occur in the left lane.

Always scan the road ahead

Don’t just keep an eye on whoever is in front of you and call it good enough. Keep an eye out for everything ahead of you on the road and the sidewalks. This maximizes your awareness and increases the chances of you seeing something to avoid. Stay focused and stop the texting!

Know your vehicle’s limitations

Take note of how your car, truck, van, or SUV performs in certain conditions. If you know your coupe doesn’t handle strong rain well, maybe put off your trip to the market until the weather clears. You should also be familiar with your brakes and acceleration. If you notice that it takes more pressure to brake than usual, be prepared for that and drive accordingly.

Keep your car in good shape

Just like your body, it’s important to manage your vehicle’s health. Stick to your recommended maintenance schedule for things like oil changes, coolant flushes, and wheel alignments. Basic maintenance is needed to keep your car running. If you do everything right, there’s no reason why your car can’t last upwards of thirty or more years.
