Infiniti Guam Hosts Art By Seniors

INFINITI GUAM HOSTS ART BY SENIORS FROM GUMA GINE ‘FLI’E CENTER

(Upper Tumon, GU) — INFINITI Guam recently hosted the “Moving Colors, Series 5 — Chamorro Seascapes II” art exhibit at its Upper Tumon showroom, which features the art of manåmko’ from the Guam Gine ‘fli’e Center in Dededo, according to INFINITI Guam General Manager Philippe Gerling.

Yeon Sook Park has worked with the seniors at the center through a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Guam Council of the Arts and Humanities.
“There were two goals for the works by the seniors at the Guma Gine ‘fli’e Center,” said Park. “One is to provide a physical activity for the elderly and exercise their hand-eye coordination. The other is to hopefully help them create images of some of their memories so that they can be shared with friends and family.”
The display, which will be open to the public through Friday, July 26, includes more than two dozen pieces by the senior artists, as well as more than 10 mixed-media paintings from Park. The artwork features various aspects of Chamorro culture, including sea life, flora and fauna found on Guam.

“I am very inspired by the challenging undertaking of Ms. Park to work with these manåmko’ with dementia, and was very touched by her explanation of how she found a way to communicate with them,” said Gerling. “Taking care of our senior population is so important, and INFINITI Guam is proud to host this exhibit for the community to enjoy.”
Park expressed her appreciation to the nursing staff at the Guam Gine ‘fli’e Center for their dedication to the project, as well as the seniors themselves for their contributions to the continuation of local arts.
INFINITI Guam regularly hosts artist exhibitions as part of its INFINITI Art Gallery program, featuring local painters, photographers, craftsmen, musicians and more. For more information, contact 647-7345 or email events@nissanguam.com.
