Tips for renting a car

Renting a car is a very convenient thing to do after you have flown somewhere. For Guam residents, renting a car is a must-do when visiting the United States. You can’t exactly drive to the mainland, so renting a car is one of the only options. While it is an incredibly convenient service, it comes with some confusion if you have never done it before. Check out some of our tips for renting a car below.

Tips for Guam residents renting a car in the United States

Keep it as efficient as possible

It can be very tempting to get a car that shines with glitz and glamour, especially when you know you will only have it for a few days. If you need extra room for passengers and cargo, there are plenty of efficient SUV and crossover models to choose from (the 2018 Nissan Rogue, for example). If, however, you don’t need extra room, we recommend that you go with a compact, highly-efficient option like the Nissan Versa.

Rent from a dealer away from the airport

If you can find a way via Uber, Lyft, or taxi, you will save some money by renting a car away from the airport. Renting right at the airport is extremely convenient, of course, but that convenience is what the companies use to justify higher rates. Try to get to a nearby rental agency instead and you will save some cash.

Consider prepaying

Many rental car companies offer significant discounts to travelers who are willing to prepay. For example, Hertz had recently offered certain economy cars for $173 per week at a “pay now” rate, while the “pay later” rate was nearly $200 a week. Consider looking into prepaying with your desired rental dealer and you could save quite a bit of money. Safe travels to the States!
