4 Reasons Why Your Check Engine Light Is On

One thing that can really throw us for a loop is when the check engine light comes on in our vehicles. There are many reasons as to why it’s on, and they usually aren’t a huge problem.

At Nissan Guam, we want your vehicle to run in tip-top shape for as long as possible. We understand that you and your vehicle have been through a lot together, and you want to treat it right. By taking the time to understand what is going on under the hood, you’ll be better prepared to service your vehicle in the proper manner. If you’ve gotten to the point where you’re ready for a newer vehicle, check out our inventory to find your next car, truck, or SUV.

Our Inventory

Too Much Gas

Sometimes, when the catalytic converter begins to wear down, gases from the exhaust can leak into your vehicle’s engine. This issue is often overlooked, but getting it checked regularly can help keep your vehicle running better and longer.

Too Much Water

Water can turn even the simplest part of driving into a hassle. If it has recently rained, or you’ve gone through a rather large puddle, there may be excess water in your engine. Don’t worry though, this issue fixes itself over the course of a handful of miles.

Bad Spark Plugs

If you’re driving a gasoline-powered vehicle, then your engine is compiled of spark plugs along with timing belts and hoses. All of these components need to be in perfect order to keep your vehicle running the way it should, and your check engine light darker than these west-coast nights.

Gas Cap

We know what you’re thinking. “My gas cap is nowhere near my engine, though?” While the gas cap is indeed located on the other end of most vehicles, in some circumstances having a loose gas cap can trigger the check engine light. This is a quick-fix that can easily save you a trip to the service shop!

If you notice that your check engine light is on and none of these tips seem to help, make sure you visit your trusted service station here in Tamuning. There is nothing like the peace of mind in knowing that your vehicle is running properly and your trusted technicians can help to provide that for you. We even offer rental vehicles in case you need to finish up your errands before your vehicle is ready for the road. When servicing your vehicle, you can trust that our technicians use only authentic Nissan parts. Nissan parts have been designed specifically for your Nissan vehicle. Why use parts that have been made for many makes and models when you can use the parts made for just one? If you like getting under the hood yourself, we also sell genuine Nissan parts.
