How often should you check your brakes?
It’s a good idea to get your brakes checked at regular intervals. It is recommended that you get your brakes replaced between every 20,000 to 60,000 miles. However, it’s good to get them expected every 10,000 miles due to driving factors. Mechanics also suggest getting them inspected every time you go in for an oil change. Another time to have them checked is when you go to get your tires rotated and balanced.
Signs you need new brake pads
Due to driving conditions or natural wearing down, you’ll most likely need to get your brakes changed before you hit the recommended interval. There are five signs to watch out for to know if your brakes need to be replaced. First sign is squeaking or squealing. The second sign is an indicator light turning on. Third sign is a deep grinding metal sign. The fourth sign is a vibrating brake pedal. The fifth sign is that your brake pads are less than a 0.25-inch thick.
What can happen if you don’t change your brakes?
If you don’t get your brakes changed regularly it can cause serious damage to your vehicle. What problems can it create? Bad brakes can lead to your tires become unbalanced or unaligned. Your braking system could overheat and fail if the brake pads get too low. Letting your brake pads too low can also damage the rotors and calipers. Replacing these parts can be very expensive. In a worst case scenario, your brakes could fail completely.
