Improve Your Brakes with Proper Maintenance

February 11th, 2025 by

While your car has thousands of moving parts, including rotors, drums, pads, calipers and more, keeping your brakes properly maintained IS the most safety-conscious decisions you can make. The Nissan Guam Service Department provides brake service for all makes and models, keeping you (and everyone else!) safe on the road.

Your brake system consists of multiple parts, all of which can break down over time. Most often needing to be replaced are the vehicle’s brake pads, which applies pressure or friction to the brake rotor, bringing the vehicle to a stop. Once your brake pads wear down to needing replacement, this can cause major damage to the rotors and/or drums. If not addressed immediately.

WHAT TO LOOK (AND LISTEN!) FOR

If you hear a high-pitched squeak or a grinding sound when you press your brake pedal, it could indicate that your pads need replacing. Additionally, feeling a vibrating or pulsing sensation in your steering wheel or brake pedal can also mean your brake rotors may be warped. When coming to a stop and feeling your vehicle pull to the left or the right, pay attention! This may indicate serious brake issues could be coming your way.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I HAVE MY BRAKES CHECKED?

Preventative maintenance/inspection of your brakes is recommended every 5,000 to 10,000 miles or every six months, depending on your driving habits. Replacement of your brake fluid is recommended annually.

In order to get a good look, our experienced technicians will lift your car up to inspect the brake lines, cables, as well as the disc and pads or drums and shoes. And we’ll make it easy — this type of inspection is often done along with a factory recommended six-month service or during a tire rotation since your vehicle is already lifted, and it’s easier to perform a proper inspection with the wheels off.

If anything is found that requires additional attention during the inspection, your Nissan Service Advisor will determine the best path forward to ensure your entire braking system is safe and reliable.
